Robin Sloan has hit it out of park again. When I heard that the man who wrote Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore had written another book, I needed to get my hands on it immediately. I was extremely nervous. Sometimes second books don’t live up to the first book that I loved. But this one succeeded. Oh man was this book great.
In Sourdough, we see Sloan’s weird take on a strange underworld, this time dealing with food and a magic sourdough starter. I loved everything about this book: the mythology surrounding the sourdough and the people who found it, the strange underground farmers markets, the technology aspect of robot arms, and so so so much more but read the book and find that out for yourself! Sloan sees the world in such a fun and interesting way and I’m so glad that I had a chance to spend some more time in his head with this book. I can’t wait for it to come out so you all can experience it! Piece of advice though, make sure to keep some sourdough bread around because you will start craving it.
