I have to admit, I work at a bookstore that sells wine and I still know very little about wine so this book was really fun to read. Bianca takes you on a journey from the first moments after she learned about sommelier competitions all the way until she *spoilers* becomes a licensed sommelier herself, with some detours to different scientists and wineries along the way. She has a unique sense of humor that shines though, making even the dense scientific sections extremely fun. I learned so much from this book and it has really made me think about wine and the wine world differently. I will never look at wine lists the same way or drink a red wine without thinking, “Does this taste more earthy or fruity?” It doesn’t matter if you are a serious wine drinker or just someone who drinks boxed wine with friends every once in a while. If you have any interest in wine whatsoever, this is the book for you.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Biana a couple of times and she is just so charming and great. This book is completely her voice and I’m so glad I got to go on her journey through the wine world. Especially since this book helped me decide that I never want to do that myself.
